Exactly one year ago, at the last REI, you communicated with our channel and shared Adani’s goal of establishing a 10 GW solar manufacturing capacity by 2025. Can you provide an update on your progress since then?
Our company is set to achieve a fully integrated capacity of 10 GW by the end of 2027. Currently, we are progressing towards this goal in stages. Recently, we have made a significant addition with the upcoming launch of our 2 GW Ingot and Wafer Manufacturing Facility. We are presently operating at 4 GW for the module and our 2 GW Topcon cell line is scheduled to become operational this month. This will bring our total capacities to 4 GW for modules, 4 GW for cells, and 2 GW for wafers. Our plan is to further expand our capacity to 7 GW within the next two years and ultimately reach 10 GW by 2027.
How is this going to benefit the solar power ecosystem?
The chairman’s vision for our solar manufacturing business is to achieve complete ‘Atmanirbhar’. Although we currently rely significantly on China for raw materials and procurement, our goal is to attain a state of complete ‘Atmanirbhar’, producing key raw materials such as cells and wafers, as well as ancillary necessities like glass, backsheets, EVA, and others, all within India.
In addition to establishing the 10 GW capacity that will encompass the entire solar power sector, what are your other short-term and long-term goals?
Our primary focus lies in manufacturing, with two distinct divisions within our group. One division is dedicated to manufacturing, while the other focuses on Renewable Power Generation. This particular business oversees all power generation activities. Our main area of expertise is solar manufacturing, and our goal is to provide India with the advantage of a fully integrated manufacturing ecosystem. This approach ensures that all capabilities are housed within the country, promoting self-reliance ‘Atmanirbhar’ and enabling us to maintain effective control over the supply chain and pricing.
During your AGM and other public interactions, we have observed a strong commitment to the solar power and green energy sector. How is your group actively addressing this, and what steps are being taken to ensure full dedication to this cause?
Our group remains dedicated to renewable energy, firmly believing in its significance for India’s future and the world’s sustainability. With this vision originating from our Chairman’s office, the group has strengthened and continues to strengthen its commitment to renewable energy.
Regarding your participation in the REI 2023 exhibition, what specific product technologies are you showcasing here?
We are presenting the entire integrated supply chain, including our existing and future ventures, from MG Silica Mining to module manufacturing. Our booth offers a comprehensive display of this progression, highlighting the intriguing transformation of MG Silica from its natural state into solar modules that harness sunlight to generate electricity. This showcase is a valuable educational tool for the industry and all stakeholders. In addition, we are proud to announce the launch of our cutting-edge product, the Topcon modules, which boast high efficiency and the latest technology. We take pride in being the sole manufacturer and distributor of Topcon modules in India, with plans to commence shipments in November.
Considering Adani Solar’s consistent growth, what specific focus do you currently have for the sector?
The solar sector is currently experiencing a promising phase with Prime Minister Modi setting an ambitious target of 300 GW of solar capacity by 2030. All stakeholders, including the manufacturing and generation sectors, are diligently working towards this goal. Looking ahead, the sector appears poised to significantly contribute to the country’s needs, not only economically but also as a substantial social cause.
