EMO Hannover 2023 | Exclusive Preview

EMO Hannover is the world’s leading Trade Fair for metalworking and machine tools. The mega event, organized by VDW i.e. German Machine Tool Builders’ Association, will be held from 18 to 23 September. This year, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever before. With over 1,750 manufacturers of production technology from 42 countries, attendees can expect to explore a wide range of smart technologies from the entire value chain. Let’s dive into the pre-event report and get a glimpse of what’s in store for EMO Hannover 2023 visitors.

Dr. Wilfried Schäfer, Executive Director, VDW said, “The EMO event is scheduled for September this year. Attendees will witness the latest advancements and emerging trends in digital technology. Automation is currently a great focus. There is strong demand from customers in this area. Additionally, sustainability will be a prominent topic, both at our special booth and among various exhibitors. Historically, we have observed a significant presence of Indian customers at EMO, making it the largest Asian customer group. Given the recent surge in industrial production in India, we anticipate a continued strong presence of Indian customers at the event. Moreover, we are witnessing a growing number of Indian exhibitors at EMO.”

Dr. Markus Heering, Executive Director, VDW said, “EMO 2023 holds special significance for several reasons. Firstly, it marks the return of a major Machine Tool event after a two-year hiatus. Since 2020, all trade shows have been closed, making this event highly anticipated. Additionally, this EMO comes after a four-year gap since the last one happened. During this interim period, we witnessed significant advancements and progress in various areas. The fields of digitalization and automation have been rapidly evolving, and sustainability has emerged as a critical topic gaining increasing importance. Therefore, EMO 2023 promises to be a noteworthy platform where these advancements and meaningful discussions will take place.”

In line with the industry’s ever-evolving landscape, digitalization, and automation are expected to take center stage at EMO Hannover. From robotics and artificial intelligence to virtual and augmented reality, these cutting-edge technologies are revolutionizing manufacturing processes.

Torsten Delfs, Product Manager, Balluff, “At Balluff, we are proud to introduce our innovative sensor system called the Smart Automation and Monitoring System (SUMS). It can be likened to the Smartwatch of industrial automation, offering advanced functionalities. This system utilizes IO-Link, an open and fieldbus-independent connection that operates at the lowest level. Within the SUMS range, we offer various products such as inductive couplers, RFID, and network blocks. We are excited to announce our participation in the upcoming EMO Hanover event in September. We warmly invite you to visit our booth, where we will showcase the numerous advantages and possibilities that the SUMS system brings.”

Theo Saville, CEO, CloudNC said, “We are excited to introduce our latest innovation to the market: an AI co-pilot for CAM software. This groundbreaking tool revolutionizes component production. By analyzing the 3D file of your components, it generates countless potential production methods through sophisticated mathematical algorithms that form our proprietary intellectual property. These methods are then used to select the best approach to producing the components.”

Saville further states, “What sets our AI co-pilot apart is its seamless integration with popular CAM software, such as Fusion 360. It communicates with Fusion 360, giving instructions on what needs to be done. With just a click, you can generate a 90 percent complete CAM program instantly. As a machinist, programmer, or workshop owner, you have the flexibility to make any necessary adjustments. This streamlined process allows you to keep your machines running smoothly. It also increases quoting and estimation capabilities, and focuses on the various tasks that contribute to your business success. CAM Assist saves you valuable time, empowering you to achieve more efficiently.”

Joachim Jäckl, European Marketing & Communications Manager, ANCA said, “I am pleased to announce our participation in this year’s EMO exhibition. This is a renowned event that attracts customers and visitors from around the globe. We are particularly excited about showcasing our products on the market, where we have a strong presence. We believe we have the right solutions to offer. Starting with our entry-level products like the versatile five-axis platform and extending to our advanced automated and visual solutions, we cater to a wide range of customer needs. Our efficient regrinding capabilities and post-production automation further enhance productivity and efficiency. With our comprehensive suite of features and vertical linear integration, we provide advanced functionality for grinding various types of tools. These cutting-edge technologies will be the highlight of our EMO presentation.”

Lennart Riehle, Head of Sales & Marketing (Tool Control – spike), pro-micron GmbH said, “Here, we have standard machining components, commonly used in India. India has a growing demand for high-quality precision machining. However, traditional machining operations often lack smart sensor solutions that enhance cutting-edge durability during operation. This is where Spike comes in. With Spike, we offer advanced sensor solutions that not only improve the performance of the cutting edge but also assist machinists in identifying critical failure points.”

“By detecting these failure points and analyzing machine data, we can locate errors efficiently. This information is invaluable during production, as it eliminates the need for costly downstream quality checks, particularly in industries like aerospace. By identifying errors faster, we can ensure that profits are maximized while maintaining productivity and achieving significant cost savings,” Riehle concludes.
