How AI is transforming medical devices industry?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the medical devices industry, bringing forth significant advancements in healthcare. By integrating AI, the industry is seeing improvements in diagnostics, personalized treatment plans, and patient outcomes. Experts like Rajiv Nath, Managing Director of HMD and Forum Coordinator of AIMED, and Jatin Mahajan, Managing Director of J Mitra & Co, provide insights into these transformative changes. They emphasize the role of AI in enhancing diagnostic accuracy and efficiency, thereby reshaping the medical landscape. Read this report on How AI is transforming the medical devices industry.
AI’s Role in Diagnostics and Patient Care
Rajiv Nath, Managing Director of HMD and Forum Coordinator of AIMED, expressed his excitement about the transformative times ahead. “Nowadays, we are facing very exciting times where technology is transforming the landscape, both in healthcare as well as in medical devices. AI, in X-ray and in diagnostics, also for ophthalmology and going forward, the kind of startups that we are seeing blooming all over the place, actually makes me feel like a dinosaur when we see how rapidly the landscape will change in the next 5 to 10 years. This applies to digital healthcare, transcriptions, healthcare informatics, diagnostics, as well as medical diagnostics and medical device manufacturing.”
Nath also emphasized India’s strong positioning in the software industry and the growing manufacturing capabilities under the Make in India initiative. “India has always had a very strong positioning in the software industry worldwide. The hardware industry has been an area where India has been dependent upon imports coming in from China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, and to some extent from the USA and Europe. With MeitY’s great policy initiatives over the last 5 to 10 years, we’ve got consumer electronics and mobile phone manufacturing going up very rapidly. If replicated for medical equipment, we would have a strong base for hardware. Under the PLI scheme, many people have come forward for MRI, cath labs, and CD diagnostics. This equipment will need AI and advanced software. As Make in India grows for hardware, the software part will automatically ride that wave. Exciting times are ahead, so watch this space.”
Digitization and AI: A New Era for Medical Devices
Jatin Mahajan, Managing Director of J Mitra & Co, highlighted how digitization and AI are revolutionizing the industry. “As far as digitization and AI are concerned, they are revolutionizing the way things are done in the metric space. Enhanced diagnostics through digitization allow for early-stage disease detection, leading to better patient outcomes and lower healthcare costs. Telemedicine enables healthcare professionals to better diagnose, manage, and prescribe treatments to patients in remote locations, improving overall patient management. AI and digital tools are also enhancing skill sets through AI-based modules and simulation areas.”
Conclusion
The integration of AI in the medical devices industry is driving significant advancements in healthcare. Experts like Rajiv Nath and Jatin Mahajan highlight the transformative impact of AI on diagnostics, treatment plans, and patient outcomes. As AI continues to evolve, it promises a future of more efficient, accurate, and personalized healthcare solutions. The industry is poised for exciting developments, with AI at the forefront of this technological revolution.
