Mahagenco sets new record by achieving power generation of 10,445 MW
On 9th March, Maharshtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (Mahagenco) achieved highest ever record power generation in its history of long 69 years by generating 10445 MW during the evening peak hours. Proper coal & fuel management is said to be key factor behind the record generation.
After taking over as Energy Minister, Dr. Nitin Raut focused on maximization of generation by using coal in judicious manner and periodic review of the situation. He asked the officials for optimum utilization of the plant load factor (PLF) to the capacity of atleast 95 percent while the MERC has set the benchmark of PLF to 85 percent. He asked the suppliers to provide coal as per the norms and warned to take action for the violation of agreement.
When he took over the charge as an Energy Minister on January 6, 2020, MahaGenco generated 6821 MW including 4,804 MW from thermal plants. But today on 9 March 2021, it reached to 10445 MW including 7991 MW from thermal plants. The thermal power generation has almost doubled in one year.
Congratulating the MahaGenco, Dr Raut said he was delighted by their efforts and constantly labouring to increase the generation. He adds, “I am constantly emphasizing on effective fuel management, adequate stock of coal, preventive maintenance to prevent breakdown of the generation sets. Efforts are also made to reduce the cost of generation. It will help to reduce the tariff.”
