OMRON Introduces MD-650 Autonomous Mobile Robot for Enhanced Efficiency

OMRON, a prominent player in the field of factory automation and Industry 4.0 solutions, has introduced the MD-650 Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR). This innovative robot offers enhanced operational efficiency within manufacturing facilities. With the introduction of this medium-payload robot, capable of carrying up to 650 kg, OMRON has broadened its range of autonomous robots to cater to a more diverse set of tasks related to the transportation of parts and materials.

OMRON’s existing portfolio of mobile robots spans from 60 kg to 1500 kg, and the MD-650 fills a vital niche in the mid-weight range, accommodating payloads of 650 kg. Its distinctive control technology ensures the secure and seamless transportation of goods, making it readily adaptable for use in production environments where both humans and machines coexist.

Sameer Gandhi, MD, OMRON Automation, India, said “Matching the pace and needs of the industry for high-speed pick & place, and human collaborative robotics solutions, OMRON Automation Business in India is expanding its diversified Robotics portfolio. This new addition to our AMR family is to strengthen & enhance the solution for warehousing (pallet transfer to warehouse), line side replenishment as well as aid flexible manufacturing thus generating value for our customers to make hassle-free & automated material movement. It provides operators relief from manual tasks for transferring material while ensuring the safety of human beings working in the same space. We look forward to collaborating with the right solution partners to co-create & develop advanced industrial solutions based on the hhuman-machinecollaborative technology the robot offers.”

In recent times, manufacturing facilities have been striving to ease the repetitive tasks faced by workers while simultaneously boosting productivity and product quality. There’s a growing need to make part and material transportation processes more efficient, especially when dealing with heavy items, work-in-progress products, and finished goods. This can be achieved through automation, lessening the physical strain on employees.

Omron’s “Fleet Manager” software simplifies the task of overseeing a fleet of up to 100 mobile robots using a single system. This eliminates the requirement for multiple management systems for various robot groups and automatically chooses the most suitable mobile robot for each task based on its capacity and availability.

Omron MD-650 offers several key features:
1. High Speed and Safety: It operates at a maximum speed of 2.2 m/sec, making it one of the fastest in the medium payload range. Advanced navigation functions and obstacle avoidance algorithms ensure smooth operation even in narrow aisles. Additionally, advanced battery and charging technology provide 8 hours of operation on a 30-minute charge.
2. Integrated Control: A single system can manage up to 100 mobile robots with different payloads, controlling the transfer sequence in rreal time This advanced linkage allows for efficient transfers with minimal retention.
3. High-Level Safety: The MD-650 is designed to comply with ISO 3691-4, the latest safety standard for industrial Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs).

Omron intends to expand its product range by introducing an additional model capable of handling medium-weight payloads, up to 900 kg. The company’s overarching goal is to create solutions that optimize the potential of individuals and contribute to a thriving future for the workforce, the industry, and the environment.
