PM launches world’s largest decentralized solar power project in Maharashtra
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first five solar parks of the world’s largest decentralized solar power generation project of 16,000 MW capacity being developed in Maharashtra for daytime power supply to farmers for irrigation at Pohradevi in Washim district on Saturday.
Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0) is being implemented in the state based on the Central Government’s PM Kusum Yojana. Development of solar power generation projects of capacity 9200 MW is currently underway and will be completed in phases by September 2025. Among them, the first five projects of Dhondalgaon (district Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Bamni Budrak (district Nanded), Haroli (district Kolhapur), Jalalabad (district Akola), Palshi Budruk (district Buldhana) with a total capacity of 19 MW were inaugurated today. Prime Minister also transferred Rs. 20.55 crore development fund to 411 gram panchayats which helped in developing solar projects. Apart from this, tender process for the development of 4800 MW solar power projects has been completed and work orders have been given.
All projects with a total capacity of 16,000 MW will be completed by March 2026 and farmers will be supplied with electricity generated entirely on solar energy, said an official statement.
In this scheme, a total investment of Rs. 65,000 crore is expected to be made by private investors and 50,000 jobs would be created in rural areas.
